Domino Sugar Stack 111720.i8-rc
This photograph was taken during the Covid lockdown, when I was living in New Orleans. Each day I’d walk along the levee, and my path would end at the Domino Sugar factory before I’d turn back. I’d stop and stare at that building, imagining the generations of workers who once filled it. Most of those jobs are gone now, the factory a monument to both labor and loss. To me, it became a symbol of something powerful yet fading an industrial cathedral in decline. I wanted the image to feel like an old postcard, but from the future: a souvenir from a time when this place no longer exists, a reminder that even the strongest structures eventually vanish.
