For twelve years, I taught public school art, and my approach was always simple: art is play. I encouraged my students to step into it with curiosity, through imagination, role-playing, dress-up, puppetry, and wonder. I was the teacher who organized field trips. On this day, we headed to the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts. But before we even arrived, the lesson revealed itself. On this bridge, I watched my students move, dance, and explore without prompting. In that moment, they weren’t just kids on their way to a museum, they were the art. Play had become its own masterpiece, framed in rust and light.
