Daffodils are among my favorite flowers because they are among the first to break the bleakness of winter and usher in better days. Often, they also are all that is left of old homesteads where they bloom around what was once the foundations – outlining someone’s home. My great-grandmother on my mother’s side planted these delicate flowers in wheel shapes and circles in her front yard to confuse evil spirits and protect her property.
